People always imagine about India before even knowing about the country. There are many misconceptions about India, but it’s magical beyond the expectations. 

Here at Masala Pop Store, we thought to clear few misconceptions that most firangs (westerners) have about India:

  1. India is Poor: People walk on the roads, and they live in huts, but poverty is a part of India. The entire Nation isn’t below the poverty line.

  2. India is a Hindu Country: All people in India have different religions. India is not a Hindu Country.  Hinduism is one of the major religions in India among Sikh, Jain, Christianity and Islam.

  3. Indian women only wear Sarees or Kurta: There is a wide range of dresses in India. In India’s urban part, women can wear anything they like, not just Sarees or Kurta.

  4. The Indians run around the trees for singing and dancing: It’s just a myth because of Bollywood movies. Indians don’t run around the trees to woo their partners.

  5. Every Indian expert on Kamasutra: C’mon, half of the Indians even don’t receive sex education until they are 21 years old.

  1. Every Indian has an arranged marriage: It’s not true, practically Sima aunty can’t visit every Indian House. Now, love marriages are as common as arranged marriages in India.

  1. Every Indian food involves Curry: That’s a false statement, there is a variety of dishes in India and different cuisines available, every state, every city has its flavor of Food.

  1. Snake-Charmers are everywhere in India: Masala Pop hates to burst the bubble, but it’s not true. It isn’t happening that India is overflowing by snake charmers. In Rajasthan, snake-charmers are easy to find but not in all parts of India.

  2. All Indians are Vegetarians: If that is true, then why butter chicken is favorable for most Indians. You will be surprised to know the number of non-veg lovers in India.
